Getting out there sounds great, but we know there are tangible hurdles in the way for some to make it to the WTF Bikexplorers Summit in Whitefish. In an effort to lessen those hurdles – and to make the Summit as diverse as the world we live – we’re offering scholarships for FIVE folks who identify as woman, trans, femme, and/or non-binary.

The ideal scholarship recipient will:

  • be WTFnB (Trans men and women are welcome with arms wide open)
  • have a spirit of adventure and want to grow their bike-packing experience
  • have a need for this scholarship in order to attend the Summit
  • be committed to shredding the patriarchy for the long haul
  • have ideas for future bike packing trips in mind
  • be enthusiastic about supporting, connecting, and celebrating the WTFnB people in your community
  • be rad

All five scholarships includes:

  • Summit ticket with reserved campsite at the Whitefish Bike Retreat and all meals during the summit
  • $500 travel stipend
  • Sweetroll bags from Revelate Designs
  • Awesome WTF Bikexplorers swag
  • 1 yr premium subscription to Ride with GPS

In addition, three scholarship recipients will receive a bike, based on their need. We would like to thank Bike Works for their donation of a custom refurbished bicycle and Specialized for their donation of a Sequoia and a Ruze.

Application submission has ended at this time.

To apply, please fill out this scholarship application by THURSDAY, MAY 24th at 11:59pm (PT).

Black, Brown, Native, Queer, Two-Spirit, Trans and/or other People of Color strongly encouraged to apply.

We look forward to reading your stories and growing the circle!

There’s no better roots than the grassroots. Fundraising, that is. If you support our mission and efforts, please consider helping us grow the community through our Go Fund Me. All the money raised will go directly toward covering lodging, meals, and travel expenses for 5 scholarship recipients. We are currently trying to raise $2500 and need your help to make it happen.

The WTF Bikexplorers scholarships are named after SJ Brooks. SJ was the founder of the Seattle chapter of Friends on Bikes, a cycling group that fosters a community for women, trans, femme and non-binary people of color who love riding bikes. SJ was scheduled to speak about Friends on Bikes and be a part of the queer people of color panel at the WTF Bikexplorers Summit. On May 19th, SJ was fatally attacked while biking outside of Seattle. SJ’s death is a huge loss to the cycling community. They were a positive light who worked tirelessly to create change. We send our deepest condolences to SJ’s family and loved ones. Our best wishes go to Izzy as well, who is still recovering.

The WTF Bikexplorers Summit Scholarships are made possible by the generous support of people who work at companies that believe in and support the WTF Bikexplorers’ mission and want YOU to be able to attend the Summit.

Our heartfelt thanks to: Swift Industries, Bike Works, Brew Dr. Kombucha, Ride With GPS, Revelate Designs and Specialized Bicycles.
